KKL Luzern
Culture & Convention Centre · Jean Nouvel
The story
The KKL (Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Luzern) was designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel. The concert hall opened in 1998 and the whole building was finished in 2000. Its thin roof stretches about 45 metres out over the lake, and water channels flow right into the building. The concert hall is famous worldwide for its acoustics and is home to the Lucerne Festival every summer. Stand under the roof and look back at the old town: that is where you are heading next.
