Old Town Hall & Kornmarkt
Rathaus · Kornmarkt · Rathausquai
The story
Lucerne's Old Town Hall was built between 1602 and 1606. Its facade is Italian Renaissance, but look at the roof: it is a typical Swiss farmhouse roof, a mix that makes it unique. For centuries this was the city's trading centre: grain was sold on the Kornmarkt, right beside the building. Every Tuesday and Saturday morning the market still sets up along the river under the arcades of the Rathausquai.
